" Hi Phil,

Sorry I haven't touched base with you until now but I've been a bit busy.

Not too busy to neglect my On30 Shay that you so expertly repaired and

reprogrammed.

Slow speed operation is amazing, but then, it's a Shay. The new gears you

installed are perfect.  I walked beside one at Cass years ago and this

brings me back in time. The "drift" that you programmed is such a cool

feature. I'm learning to drive the beast now. As my small layout slowly

fills with buildings and scenery the best scenery will still be the Shay.

Jim from Honor, MI ...

" Phil,

Picked the shay up at the post office about 45 minutes ago.

All is well. Put it on the track and was really impressed. Although I acquired it in a trade for a slightly earlier 2 truck (before PFM made 3 truck) neither the new engine or this one ever ran that

smoothly. It's probably runs smoother than the real engine ever did!  I'll put a little paint/rust on the brass, parts and it will fit right in with the Twin Seam(s) scenery.

Thanks for reviving it for me, I am really grateful to see it running so nicely.

Mark from Durango, CO ...

" Advice 101,

... I have one too and in fact mine had an early  tender which had a seam at the back. Took me ages but eventually I managed to get a later one though the original details like the ladder and water hatch were better on the original so I swapped them out. Mine now has a Mashima motor with the original gearbox and runs well.

I would however consider re-plating the wheels, Phil Floyd 'aka the Shayfixer' does a very good job putting  Nickel Silver back on the wheels. For the relatively small cost compared to buying a PSC, I would recommend his services.

Just a very satisfied customer, no more,

Mark K "

" Phil,

She arrived and I am pleased with how she looks and how she runs. Yes seven years is a long wait and at my age I wondered if I would make it but we both succeeded.

The package had signature required printed on the label and that was ok with me.

Thanks again

  " Hi Phil,

Just a quick note to let you know my friend delivered the Shay yesterday and I’m absolutely blown away by her! She is better than I imagined and in perfect mint condition.

I can’t run her at the moment as I’m in the process of moving house (and only have DCC anyway) but if she runs anything like as well as she looks, I’ll be delighted.

As I think I mentioned, I’m heading to live in Austria in early July and have already identified a company who can fit the decoder and (hopefully) sound and light, as well as handling the paint job. I love model railroading, but know my limitations!

I’ll send you a picture of the finished product if you’re interested.

Thanks again – I’ll be in touch for a future purchase.

Cheers

Alistair "

 " Phil,

Buddy, you are a life saver!!  I ordered the NWSL gears you gave the p/n the same day you called.  They came Saturday and today my hands were not shaky (age 73) so I proceeded to remove the boiler/superstructure just like you told me.  Now that I could see the drive train for myself, it all made sense.  In less than an hour, the running gear was moving smoothly back and forth on the test track!  You really know your business and I can't thank you enough for the advice and information.  Is there anything I can do to pay you back?  You definitely increased the value of this loco.

Again, thanks a million, you made this old man happy!

Thanks for the quick turnaround! The box came today at about 1130 am. No bumps or bruises. I'll be opening it this afternoon and hope to give the Shay a test run...

Hello Phil,

My Shay runs great on my Digitrax set-up... once I understood how to run it in DC mode! Super smooth operation; lights...front and back work...firebox lights up, too. I'm one happy logging railroad super! Now the next step is to check DCC ready or not...that is the question.

Many thanks to the Shay Fixer for great work, prompt turnaround and value-added service!

Phil,

I have been meaning to tell you that it was nice to see your picture in the Model Railroad Hobbyist Magazine.  Maybe you are going to get some of the credit you have earned. It was good to meet you up in Seattle and I am glad I brought you my std. gauge shay to repair with my new HON3 you are working on for me.

 Congratulations again,

 Dave

Pete from New Hampshire...

Hi Phil,

Are the toothed wheel gears on (non-helical geared) Cowichan's, Hillcrest's and Benson's so delicate that they aren't going to last very long in actual operation no matter what care is given them? The model runs well, but I compare those baby teeth to the teeth on a B-2 Shay...hmmm!

…Beautiful model work on your website!

By the way- I recommended you and Nano Oil to Bob Brown at the Gazette for a story. Don't know if he followed up, but I think you have some valuable techniques for PFM Shays. Thanks again...

Phil,

The photos are beautiful. Did you use a cam for the chuff rate or CV 116?

And...

my Shay is running fine now, thanks!!!...

***

Craig from Melbourne, Florida...

Phil,

Sure enjoyed our conversation.  Your great knowledge of "All Things Shay" will probably in the end save me a lot of aggravation (as well as money).  No need to reply to this email - it's just a thanks for the call and the info you passed on.

The plan we settled on makes a lot of sense.  The Bachman’s were, at best, stopgap fixes until I could get the brass fixed.  The plan to queue the brass up for the first of the year is fine with me - I can get rid of the Bachman’s and use the funds for the rest. The two Cowichan HOn3 Shays and the HOn3 Heisler will serve my needs nicely.  I'll check in from time to time and let you know how the DC loco on DCC track works with the workaround you gave me.

Hope your healing and PT goes well, and that you have the same success I've had.  It makes a lot of difference on how you feel after it's all over.

Thanks again,

***

Wayne from Red Lodge, Montana…

Phil,

Thanks for the reply.  I decided to try the re-motoring myself and things worked out just fine.
